YOUR people are the focus of the Demonstration Initiative

Let managers and improvement pros test humaneering in their operations

Secure a preliminary evaluation of humaneering from the managers and improvement pros you trust most, while enabling them to recognize new potential for improving their operations

"Who would believe this without data? Our top three labor productivity constraints are so-called best practices. That makes us the bottleneck. "
- Director of Continuous Improvement (Six Sigma Master Black Belt), consumer electronics manufacturer

What is the Demonstration Initiative?

This service begins just like a Project Initiative, yet the intention from the outset is to limit the expense to a discretionary level, and to utilize members of the client organization so as to give them hands-on experience with humaneering. The effort is entirely authentic, and could be continued as a Project Initiative with no waste of resources.

You select the target (a role/job or people-dependent process, function or operation), objective (increase performance or productivity, resolve a people problem, make managing easier), and budget. And you select up to 10 volunteers from your organization who want to participate directly in the experience for most of 2 to 4 weeks. We briefly train these participants and work with them as we work with our own staff. [At your option, we will use our own staff if your people prefer to observe the process without participating directly.]

This service is budget-limited to Phase 1 Project Initiative activities (work system assessment), and intentionally will not extend to Phase 2 activities (solution testing and implementation). Work system assessment consists of (a) data gathering (primary and secondary) and analysis and (b) data synthesis and system mapping.

The budget may not allow submission of the data to the Humaneering Institute's INSIGHT decision-support system for more precise data synthesis and work-system optimization, yet the level of data analytics performed on site is itself compelling. Even with the intentionally incomplete assessment, this service concludes with a collaborative interpretation of the work-system assessment data and value-ranking of improvements opportunities.

This service includes 3 months of unlimited follow-up email and phone support.

Who will provide this service?

One of our Humaneering Institute IP-licensed professionals will lead this effort, supported by one or more of our humaneering specialists and your volunteer participants.

What do you need from us?

The Demonstration Initiative requires our near-continuous presence on site for 2 to 4 weeks, during which we will be assessing the target operation. This process involves gathering existing data and generating new data, plus concurrent synthesis of this data.

This process requires reasonable access to data and people, plus the collaborative assistance of operations executives, managers and improvement pros. To this end, the following client support is very helpful:

  • Securable conference room or office from which to work, preferably in the vacinity of the target operation.

  • Part-time assistance of a recognized organization member to help us source existing data, schedule interviews, coodinate meetings, etc.

Can we transition to a Project Initiative?

Yes. This is common when clients quickly develop confidence in humaneering and when they recognize new opportunities for substantial improvement. We will propose a Project Initiative and credit you for payments received.

What results can we anticipate?

  • Participants from your organization will begin to understand and appreciate fundamental humaneering principles, methods, and perspectives, and to gain new insights into the current and potential performance of the target operation

  • Management will develop new perspective on managing operations, deeper insight into the target operation's human work system, and a clearer understanding of how people and their human nature impact operation performance and productivity

  • A partially vetted value-ranked list of improvement opportunities for the target operation, some of which will have high enough probability scores to justify action

  • Feedback from anyone involved, either as a process participant or as a collaborator making sense of the data, should be sufficient for management to make an informed decision regarding humaneering-based work design . . . whether to explore it further now, or reconsider it at a later time

What risk is involved?

DesignedWORK was selected by the nonprofit Humaneering Institute to be its exclusive provider of humaneering (beta) technology transfer and commercialization support to organizations. For this purpose we developed a program of application support services that minimize risk to encourage and enable organizations to learn about, experiment with, and capitalize on humaneering. For example, our service features include:

  • Fixed-cost agreements include all travel and other project-related expenses (no risk of runaway fees and expenses)

  • Guaranteed satisfaction - Client satisfaction is assured for all services, so our work is not done until you are fully satisfied (no downside financial risk)

  • Strict confidentiality extends beyond your NDA to our science-based protocol of not ever disclosing client names—not even for references—or anything about their operations, including their humaneering solutions (no risk to trade secrets or dilution of first-mover competitive advantage)

  • Generative presence results from a work style that is collaborative (not exclusive), supportive (not critical), measurement-guided (not opinionated), and resourceful (not dependent), thereby generating trust and cooperation (minimizing aversion to consultants and push-back from organization members)

What if we have more questions?

When you request our proposal for a Demonstration Initiative, the professional who will provide this service will call you to discuss your situation, objectives and preferences. This is an opportunity to get answers to your questions.

Alternatively, we invite you to send your questions at any time to our Client Services team, who will respond within 72 hours, 24/7/365.
